130 miles and Sonic!!! Today was a great day. We started in 42 degree weather in Lakeside and it was funny to see everyone jumping around to keep warm considering most of them sent their jackets and long sleeve shirts back home thinking they’d never need them again in the desert. Luckily for the cyclists, it warmed up considerably to nearly 100 degrees by the time they arrived in Socorro. The ride in was easier than most expected considering it was a 130 mile day, but there was a storm coming in which caused quite the headwind once they were just about into town.
Once we arrived at the Comfort Inn Socorro we were greeted by our Project Manager’s mother and father, aunt and uncle. Immediately everyone was given a frozen ice pop and fresh fruit and snacks. Once we received our room assignments, Todd’s aunt asked us all to bring our uniforms so that she could wash them for us. It was quite the treat to head to dinner and return to clean clothes. She even folded them for us.
We were all really excited for dinner at Sonic, which was sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Stacy and Todd’s Grandmother. We all gorged ourselves until we about popped. Needless to say we didn’t do much of anything that night other than get in the hot tub to relax. It felt good to finally do some of that after a long couple of days.
